Putting it in the file
- Stop the server and open serverconfig.xml, or your own copy of it.
- For each line above, replace the property with the same name. Keep every other property and the ServerSettings tags that wrap the list.
- For gameplay rules, open Sandbox Options in the game, copy the code, and paste it into the SandboxCode field here.
- Save the file and start the server. On a hosted server, keep the ports your host assigned.
This page has no password field. Built in your browser: nothing you enter here is sent or stored.
Method
How the lines are put together
A 7 Days to Die dedicated server reads its settings from serverconfig.xml, a list of property lines that each hold a name and a value. This generator writes those lines for the settings on the form, using the defaults from the file as its starting values. The one exception is the region, which starts on Europe.
It is written for V3. The V3.0 release notes from The Fun Pimps moved gameplay settings out of the file and into a single SandboxCode property, so a list that still shows GameDifficulty, XPMultiplier or LootAbundance describes an earlier version. The file's default code is AAAJABJACJADJARFBNC, which the notes equate to the old Adventurer difficulty. The V3.1.0 notes ask you to check preset codes after an update, so recheck yours whenever the game changes.
The other names and defaults follow the comments in the game's own file, as recorded in this V3.4.0 property reference. The comments in your server's copy are the final word for your build.
The game uses ServerPort on TCP and UDP plus the next three UDP ports, so 26900 also takes 26901 to 26903. Admin rights are set in serveradmin.xml instead.
The 7 Days to Die dedicated server setup guide covers installation, world choice, telnet, mods and updates.
FAQ
7 Days to Die config generator: questions
Where did GameDifficulty and BloodMoonFrequency go?
V3.0 moved them, along with loot, day length, zombie speed and other gameplay settings, out of serverconfig.xml and into one property, SandboxCode. Setting the old names in the file does nothing on V3, which is why this generator does not offer them.
How do I get a SandboxCode?
In the game, open the Sandbox Options menu on the new game screen, set the rules you want, and copy the code it gives you. Paste it into the SandboxCode field here, or straight into the property in your file. After a game update, check that your code is still valid.
Should I replace my whole serverconfig.xml with this?
No. The output is a set of property lines for the settings on this form, and your file holds others too. Replace the lines with matching names and leave the rest. Keeping your edits in a copy of the file, chosen with the -configfile option, protects them when an update restores the stock file.
Why did my base disappear after I changed a setting?
GameWorld, WorldGenSeed, WorldGenSize and GameName together pick the save. Change one and the server opens a different save, while the old one stays on disk under its old values. Set them back and your base returns. Settle these four before anyone starts building.
Is anything I enter sent to Puranode?
No. The lines are built in your browser. The page makes no request with your inputs and stores nothing, and it has no password field: turning on a password writes a placeholder that you replace on your own machine.
Need somewhere to run it?
Puranode hosts 7 Days to Die dedicated servers on EPYC and NVMe in the EU, with direct file access to your serverconfig.xml and saves.
