Valheim server settings generator
Choose your server options and world modifiers, then copy the launch arguments for a Valheim dedicated server. The password stays a placeholder, and nothing you type leaves this page.
Generator
Your server
Output
Launch arguments
-name "My server" -port 2456 -world "Dedicated" -password "YOUR_SERVER_PASSWORD_HERE" -public 1
Replace YOUR_SERVER_PASSWORD_HERE on your own machine.
Putting it on the server
- Stop the server, then open start_server.sh on Linux or start_headless_server.bat on Windows.
- On the line that starts the server, replace the arguments shown above and keep the program name and any other options as they are. On a hosted server, use the startup settings in your control panel and keep the port your host assigned.
- Set the password. Choose at least five characters that do not appear in the server name or world name.
- Start the server and read the console to confirm the world name it loaded.
This page has no password field. Built in your browser: nothing you enter here is sent or stored.
Method
How the arguments are put together
A Valheim dedicated server has no settings file for its main options. It reads them from the command line that starts it, so the server name, world, port and password are all launch arguments, and world modifiers join them on the same line.
Every argument and value here comes from Iron Gate's guide to dedicated servers. That covers the seven presets, the five modifiers with their levels, and the four keys for no build cost, player based raids, passive enemies and no map. Save and backup values use Iron Gate's defaults: a save every 1800 seconds and 4 backups, the first after 7200 seconds and the rest every 43200 seconds. A value left at its default stays out of the line, so the result stays short.
The port needs some care. The server uses the number you set and the next one up, so 2456 also takes 2457. At home, both must be forwarded on your router unless you turn on crossplay, which needs no forwarding but cannot be reached on a local or loopback address. On a hosted server, keep the port your host assigned.
Moving an existing save? The guide to moving a Valheim world to a dedicated server covers the world files, and the Valheim mods and RAM guide covers BepInEx and memory.
FAQ
Valheim settings generator: questions
Where do these arguments go?
On your own machine, in start_server.sh on Linux or start_headless_server.bat on Windows, on the line that starts the server. On a hosted server, they go in the startup settings of the control panel. If your panel already has boxes for the name, world and password, use the World modifiers only block.
Does the order of the arguments matter?
Yes, for world modifiers. Iron Gate's guide says a preset overwrites any modifiers set before it, so a modifier has to come after the preset. The generator always writes the preset first, then each modifier, then each key.
Why did my server start an empty world?
The -world argument loads a world with that exact name and creates one if it finds no match. A misspelled name or different capitals therefore gives you a fresh world, and your own stays untouched on disk. Correct the name and restart.
Why does the server stop with a password error?
Use a password of at least five characters, and keep it out of both the server name and the world name. Server owners widely report those two rules, and breaking either one stops the server during startup. The console shows the message.
Is anything I enter sent to Puranode?
No. The arguments are built in your browser. The page makes no request with your inputs and stores nothing, and it has no password field: the output carries a placeholder that you replace on your own machine.
Need somewhere to run it?
Puranode hosts Valheim dedicated servers on EPYC and NVMe in the EU, with crossplay and direct file access to your world.
