Rust server config generator
Choose a name, the slot count, the world size, a seed and the ports. You get a launch line and a server.cfg to copy. The RCON password is left as a marked placeholder, and nothing you type leaves this page.

Output
Launch line
./RustDedicated -batchmode +server.port 28015 +server.queryport 28017 +server.level "Procedural Map" +server.seed 1234 +server.worldsize 4000 +server.identity "server1" +rcon.port 28016 +rcon.password YOUR_RCON_PASSWORD_HERE +rcon.web 1 +app.port 28082
One line. On Windows the program is RustDedicated.exe. On a game panel, set the same values in the startup variables.
server.cfg
server.hostname "My Rust Server" server.maxplayers 10
Save as server/server1/cfg/server.cfg.
Fill in on your own machine
This page has no field for secrets. After you paste the launch line into your server, replace the placeholder there:
- YOUR_RCON_PASSWORD_HERE
Running Oxide or Carbon? Use one of them, never both. A game update removes the framework, so reinstall it after every update and before you start the server.
Generated in your browser. Nothing you enter here is sent or stored.
Method
How the output is put together
A Rust server is configured in two places. The launch line carries what must be fixed before the map exists: the ports, the seed, the world size and the server identity. The server.cfg file carries settings the server reads from its identity folder at startup: the name, the description and the player limit.
Convar names follow Facepunch's Rust wiki, and the split matches our guide, How to Host a Rust Server. server.worldsize takes 1000 to 6000 and server.seed takes 0 to 2147483647. The map is a square, so a larger world size needs more memory and more players to fill it.
Four ports are involved. The game port and the query port are UDP and cannot share a number. RCON and the Rust+ companion port are TCP, and the companion port must be 10000 or higher for the Rust+ service to reach it. The form opens on 28015, 28017, 28016 and 28082.
The RCON password is a secret, so the generator never asks for it. It writes YOUR_RCON_PASSWORD_HEREon the launch line and you replace it on your own machine. Tick rate is left at the server default. The PvE option adds server.pve to server.cfg. On a game panel you usually do not paste the whole line: set the same values in the panel's startup variables.
FAQ
Rust config generator: questions
Why are world size and seed on the launch line and not in server.cfg?
They decide which map the server generates, so they have to be known before the world loads. Set them as startup parameters with +server.worldsize and +server.seed. To get a different map at a wipe, change the seed in the same maintenance window as you delete the old save.
Where does server.cfg go?
In the cfg folder of the server identity: server/<identity>/cfg/server.cfg. The server reads it at startup. Lines in the file have no plus sign in front, and a setting in server.cfg takes priority over the same setting on the launch line.
Why does the generator not ask for my RCON password?
A secret typed into a web page is a secret that page could keep. The generator has no field for the RCON password. It writes a marked placeholder on the launch line, and you replace it on your own server after pasting.
Why doesn't my server appear in the server browser?
Almost always the query port. Game traffic and the query port are both UDP and must both be open, on two different numbers. If the query port is blocked, players can still connect by direct IP while the server stays out of the list.
Is anything I enter sent to Puranode?
No. The launch line and the config are built in your browser. The page makes no request with your inputs and stores nothing.
Need somewhere to run it?
Puranode hosts Rust servers on EPYC cores in the EU, with Oxide/uMod and Carbon supported.
